Why Hold On To The Moment
Something wonderful happens and we want it to last forever. We even label it as a special moment in time. We always use it as a yardstick in which we measure all other events against. The challenge is most all other events can never live up to the special events. Our days and years turn into waiting and hoping for other special events to come along so we can get our fix.
All this is complete lunacy and causes so much unhappiness in our day-to-day lives because they cannot compare to that special event.
In relationships, we do the same thing, don’t we? We are always comparing this person to our best relationship we ever had. Isn’t this silly? How can anyone compare to an old relationship you have turned into a fantasy.
This all leads to a deeper realization that holding onto an external moment in time can only cause disappointment and suffering.
Realize that it is only your ego’s perception that gives meaning to any occurrence or moment. It has nothing to do with the truth of the moment, but instead what the ego makes out of it for its own survival.
I know the ego in hearing this will proclaim, “ what is the meaning of life if we don’t remember the special moments we hold so dear? What is the purpose if not to look back on the wonderful experiences of my life”?
Of course, this is what the ego will say at this moment, because the ego is nothing more than one concept after another being held together as an identity, as your identity.
Feel what happens when I ask you this… what if you could not personalize or hold onto the special moments in your life? They would happen and shortly after you would feel unaffected by them. Do you feel like you are losing something? If so that is the identity you have created, and it feels in jeopardy of losing its existence.
Now, what if I asked the same thing, however now you would not personalize or hold onto the worst moments in your life? That changes things doesn’t it? The ego will say, of course, I would love not to give meaning to them.
What is the difference? Just the meaning you give to the event. Perceive it as good or special and you create an identity of feeling good. Yet, believe it or not when the bad events happen the ego still uses its perceptions to fortify its existence.
In this time-space continuum, neither time nor space can be stopped from passing. The whole concept of time is that it passes. It must continually pass and with it whatever happens within it. It is meant to be impermanent.
The lesson is do not try to hold onto events or thoughts for they cannot be held permanently, like freezing it in time so it lasts. Their true nature because they are impermanent is to come and go.
Giving meaning to thoughts and events and holding onto them as part of a false identity is what causes all the pain and suffering.
Holding onto a false sense of your true Self is the cause of pain and suffering. It is not needed and does not give this life experience any true joy and peace.
All that is needed is the realization that you do not require a made-up, (false), identity to exist.
The time is now, not sometime in the future for you to create health and wellness. See this moment as the critical point of changing your life around.
